Halftime: TCU 38, Utah 14

Fort Worth, Texas - Ross Evans kicked a 30-yard field goal in the final 15 seconds of the first half Saturday night, extending TCU's lead over Utah to 38-14 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

The Frogs struck for three touchdowns in the first 3:20 of the second quarter. The first two scores were set up by special-teams plays.

TCU blocked a punt late in the first period and took over at the Utah 23-yard line. Receiver Jeremy Kerley took a handoff and scored on a 3-yard run early in the second period.

After the Utes failed to move the ball, Kerley returned a punt 29 yards to the Utah 29. A 28-yard pass from Andy Dalton to Jimmy Young moved the ball to the 1 and Antoine Hicks ran in for another score, making it 28-7.

The onslaught continued as Tank Carder intercepted a Jordan Wynn pass and returned it 15 yards for another touchdown.

But just when TCU appeared ready to put Utah away for good, the Utes' Lamar Chapman intercepted a deflected pass in the end zone. The Utah offense then came to life with two long completions from Wynn to Reed, the second covering 50 yards for a touchdown that trimmed the lead to 35-14.

TCU had opened the game with an 87-yard touchdown drive, topped by Matthew Tucker's 41-yard run. It almost got worse for Utah right away. Reed fumbled on the kickoff return after a vicious hit and the Horned Frogs recovered at the Utah 16-yard line.

defense stuffed a third-and-1 play and TCU's Ross Evans missed a short field-goal try.

Utah's offense responded on its second possession, following a poor TCU punt. Wynn eluded the rush and lofted a pass down the sideline to DeVonte Christopher for 33 yards to the TCU 10. The Utes' Shaky Smithson then took a direct snap and rushed for the tying touchdown.

TCU came right back with an 80-yard touchdown drive, aided by two Utah penalties. Ryan Christian caught a pass in the right flat and turned it into a 16-yard touchdown to make it 14-7.
