A traffic stop in Layton on Tuesday ended with the 37-year-old driver arrested on suspicion of having sex with a teenager, police said.
About 7:45 p.m., an officer pulled over a green Honda Prelude near 1300 East and Cherry Lane for a burned-out headlight, said Lt. Quinn Moyes. A 16-year-old girl was in the passenger seat, and officers discovered the driver had been having sex with her for the past four to six weeks. Police also discovered he'd sent her an explicit photo over a cell phone, Moyes said. They had met through a family acquaintance.
"She says it was consensual, but of course, 16 and 37, it's against the law," he said.
The man also had a suspended license and a $700 outstanding warrant for following too closely. The car belonged to his nephew, Moyes said.
The man was arrested on suspicion of 13 counts of unlawful sexual contact with a minor, dealing in materials harmful to a minor and driving on a suspended license.
