A telephone company repairman died Tuesday after he was struck by a car in eastern Utah.

Roosevelt Police Chief Rich Harrison said Wednesday that 49-year-old Richard Adams, an employee of Strata Communications, was pronounced dead Tuesday afternoon after being rushed to Uintah Basin Medical Center.

Adams, of Roosevelt, was working on a telephone junction box near 1800 South and State Street about 11:30 a.m. when a Ford Crown Victoria struck the box and Adams. The 36-year-old driver was treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released, Harrison said.

The chief said it appeared the southbound car crossed the center line, went off the left side of State Street, hit a wooden fence post, jumped a sidewalk and went airborne before hitting Adams. The car came to rest in a residential yard, about a foot from the home's wall.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, Harrison said.
