A truck working in a backyard ran over and killed a 15-month-old girl Saturday in West Point.

The toddler, Grace Hill, died at the scene. She is the daughter of West Point city manager Gary Hill. The accident happened about 4 p.m. at the Hill home.

Davis County Sheriff's Capt. Kenneth Payne said Hill and friends had rented a mini-excavator to dig a pit for a trampoline in the backyard. Dirt was being loaded onto the bed of a one-ton truck. The truck, driven by a friend, pulled forward and drove away with the dirt when the bed was full.

Grace and five other children were playing in the backyard. No one noticed Grace was missing until a few minutes after the truck drove away and Gary Hill found his daughter on the ground, Payne said.
