A 12-year-old girl on her way to Roy Jr. High School on Wednesday morning said a man whistled at her and tried to lure her into his car.

Roy police are looking for a 2005 or newer maroon Ford Mustang with a black stripe down the middle of the door or side, which the girl said pulled up next to her near 5300 South and 2000 West at 6:50 a.m.

A white man in his 20s with short brown hair asked if she wanted a ride. When she told him she didn't, he asked if she was sure and began to unbuckle his seatbelt and reach to open the door.

The girl dropped her backpack at the curb and ran to an adult she recognized for help.

Police are looking for the man to get his side of the story. He was wearing jeans and an orange vest, perhaps a construction or crossing guard vest, and had stubble on his face.
