A tractor trailer hauling nearly 100 calves flipped Wednesday morning, killing five animals and closing westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near the town of Echo.
Utah Highway Patrol spokesman Cameron Roden said the semi flipped onto its right side just after 11 a.m. Wednesday near mile marker 171. It is not yet known what caused the Wall Livestock Transport truck to flip, and no other vehicles were involved, Roden said.
The 44-year-old driver suffered minor injuries and has been taken to a hospital. It was not immediately known where the calves were coming from or being taken to.
One animal escaped the trailer and ran away, Roden said.
