Stockton Mayor Dan Rydalch was swept out of office Tuesday by challenger Mark Whitney by a 3-to-1 margin.

According to unofficial results, with 100 percent of the votes counted, Whitney got about 75 percent of the tally.

The vote came on the heels of a political flap in the small Tooele County town. Rydalch suspended a police officer last week after the officer issued a traffic citation to the mayor's son.

The City Council promptly reinstated the officer.

Rydalch had been mayor for one term.
