A 3-year-old boy Provo was hit by a vehicle while trick-or-treating in Orem, police said.

The driver of a dark-colored pickup truck or SUV didn't stop after hitting the toddler about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, said Orem police Sgt. Craig Martinez. The vehicle struck the boy as he got out of a car in the parking lot of a condominium complex at 1340 N. 1200 West.

"[The driver] stopped about a half-block up and took off after that," Martinez said. The child was with his parents and getting ready to trick-or-treat with family.

The boy suffered critical injuries, including a facial fracture and broken leg, and was taken to Utah Valley Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to Primary Children's Medical Center. He was listed in serious condition Sunday.

Police were investigating the incident and looking for the driver.
