A Taylorsville man is accused of kidnapping his ex-wife when she agreed to meet him to discuss unresolved financial matters Saturday.

The 33-year-old man and his ex-wife planned to go to a Taylorsville bank to take care of financial issues from their marriage at about noon, said Taylorsville Police Detective Shannon Bennett.

The man convinced the woman to go to a restaurant instead. She agreed, but her former husband continued driving past the restaurant and drove onto Interstate 15, Bennett said.

The man drove south on I-15 and told the woman he was taking her to Las Vegas. She repeatedly asked him to stop the vehicle and let her out, Bennett said.

"He wouldn't let her out of the car; he wouldn't stop. It evolved into a kidnapping," Bennett said.

The woman called her sister when her ex-husband had to pull over to fix a flat tire near Springville. Authorities were notified and arrested the man on suspicion of kidnapping in Utah County shortly before 1 p.m.
