The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has more than $1 billion in federal dollars to spend on the new National Security Agency Data Center at Camp Williams -- a construction project expected to involve 5,000 to 10,000 workers.

So any potential contractors, suppliers and vendors interested in work connected with the enormous center are invited to learn more and take tours of the site on Thursday.

The event will take place at the Hilton Salt Lake City Airport Hotel, beginning at 8 a.m., with tours of the construction site scheduled for 1:15 p.m.

The data center project will include about 1 million square feet of facility space, including 100,000 square feet of data center space and 900,000 square feet of technical support and administrative space.

Ancillary supporting facilities include water treatment facilities, an electrical sub-station, a vehicle inspection facility, a visitor control center, perimeter site security, fuel storage, water storage, a chiller plant and fire suppression systems.

Pre-registration is required by Nov. 3. For more information, e-mail info@UDCIndustryDay.com or visit www.udcindustryday.com/.

Companies are asked to send a maximum of three people, who all must be citizens of the United States.

The secretive NSA went public earlier this month with its plan to build the data center, which could consume as much power as every home in Salt Lake City. Its task: Processing information collected in an effort to prevent attacks on the nation's cyber networks.

Sens. Bob Bennett and Orrin Hatch, both Utah Republicans, hailed the center as key to protecting the nation's digital infrastructure.
