Rescue crews in Utah County helped two men stranded on Utah Lake after their boat motor stopped working on rough waters Wednesday morning.
A 28-year-old and a 22-year-old planned to go fishing in an 8-foot rowboat, but their trolling motor gave out about 8:20 a.m., said Utah County sheriff's deputy Collin Gordon.
"With the weather the last couple of days, the conditions on the lake were extremely dangerous, very, very poor conditions," he said. The men tried to row to shore, but the waves were too strong and dragged the boat back out to the center of the lake.
They launched from Inlet Park about 7:30 a.m. and ended up about three-quarters of a mile from shore. People in Saratoga Springs saw the boat and called 911. Sheriff's deputies, park rangers and firefighters brought the two men back to shore. They were wet and cold, but otherwise uninjured, Gordon said.
