Rep. Brad Winn, R-Ephraim, announced he will resign his state House seat because he has accepted a faculty position at Utah State University's Huntsman School of Business and will soon move his family to the Mountain Green area.

The Ephraim resident and Snow College provost has represented Millard, Juab and San Pete counties since 2007.

Part of Winn's new USU post includes directing its human resources and leadership masters program, to be launched live at the University's Salt Lake Center and broadcast throughout the state starting in January.

Millard County Commissioner Daron Smith praised Winn for his efforts to protect the Snake Valley aquifer, water that straddles the Utah-Nevada border and is attracting great interest for future Las Vegas needs.

"Brad's been a great advocate for us on so many issues," Smith said in a release.

Gov. Gary Herbert will fill Winn's slot by year's end from names submitted by District 68 delegates after convening later this year.
