A man is accused of brandishing a handgun and threatening to kill another man after hurling a slew of racial slurs at the victim earlier this month.

According to charging documents, a 50-year-old old white man allegedly pulled up next to a Latino man on the 200 South block of Redwood Road on Oct.14. The two were involved in a road rage incident and the white man rolled down the window of his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the Latino man, charges state.

The white man claimed he was in the Ku Klux Klan and told the other man he planned to kill him, charges state. The victim then called Salt Lake City police, who tracked the man to a motel on the 1600 West block of North Temple.

Police recovered a stolen Glock 9mm handgun, $7,000, a syringe with heroin and other drug paraphernalia from the man's car, charges state.

The suspect was charged Tuesday in 3rd District Court with third-degree felony aggravated assault, two counts of second-degree felony possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute, second-degree felony theft by receiving stolen property, third-degree felony possession of a firearm by a restricted person and possession of a controlled substance, a third-degree felony.

He is being held in the Salt Lake County jail in lieu of $75,000 bail.
