A Colorado driver was killed and three others injured when an oncoming pickup truck swerved into her lane in eastern Utah's Uintah County, police said.
About 3:40 p.m. Friday, a westbound Ford F-150 pickup swerved to avoid hitting another car turning off U.S. Route 40 outside of Jensen, said Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Ted Tingey.
But when the truck moved into the eastbound lane, it hit a Chevrolet Blazer head-on. The Blazer driver, 64-year-old Karen Smithey of Dinosaur, Colo., died at the scene.
Her 38-year-old daughter, a passenger in the Blazer, suffered broken bones and was taken to Vernal's Ashley Valley Medical Center in serious condition. They both were wearing seat belts.
The 39-year-old woman driving the pickup and her 9-year-old son were taken to Ashley Valley in fair condition. The driver was belted in, troopers say; the boy was not.
Troopers don't believe drugs or alcohol played a part in the crash. The accident will be investigated for possible citations.
