Police in southwest Utah arrested a high school teacher on suspicion of child sexual abuse.

John Robert James Cody, 39, was booked into jail Friday then was released after he posted $26,850 bond. Washington City police arrested Cody on suspicion of child sexual abuse, attempted sexual abuse and lewdness. Formal charges have not been filed.

Cody teaches social studies at Pineview High School in St. George and has been employed by the Washington County School District for nine years. Washington City public safety director Jim Keith said the alleged victims are not Cody's students and "nothing is related to his profession."

A news release from Keith's office said the allegations concern three females, ages 12, 15 and 18. The acts occurred between June 2008 and August 2009 at the clubhouse swimming pool in the Coral Canyon subdivision, the release said.

Lyle Cox, the human resources director for Washington County School District, said Cody has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.
