A man was hurt and his dog was killed after their house caught fire in Ogden on Saturday morning.
The blaze gutted the home, which is a converted garage located on the 2900 block of Monroe Boulevard, said Deputy Fire Chief Chad Tucker.
Firefighters found it filled with heavy smoke, with flames coming out the windows, doors and part of the roof when they arrived about 10 a.m. The man was taken to McKay-Dee Hospital in Ogden. It wasn't immediately clear how badly he was hurt, but neighbors reported he was conscious and talking, Tucker said.
The dog, an older cocker spaniel, was breathing for a short time after he was pulled from the house, but died of smoke inhalation at the scene, said animal control officer Casey Beesley.
The fire caused about $60,000 in damage, including part of a nearby fence. The cause is under investigation.
The Ogden Animal Shelter will donate a private cremation for the dog, Beesley said.
