The state archaeologist says a team will travel to Millard County to investigate the site where 1,000-year-old bones may have been found last month.

Boys riding all-terrain vehicles in a sand pit south of Fillmore found the remains Sept. 25. Kevin Jones, the state archaeologist, said his office is still investigating the bones, but they may be 1,000 years old or more and locals have indicated Indian artifacts have been found in the sand pit before.

Jones said it's not unusual to find bones a millennium old in Utah. The remains were found about 10 miles from a child's grave found in 1999. Those were turned over earlier this year to the Kanosh band of the Southern Paiute.

Archaeologist plan to visit the Millard County site next Tuesday.
