Two men have been charged with felony discharge of a firearm after an ongoing police investigation linked them to a July 10 shooting in South Ogden that injured a man and two children.

Daniel Ray Lopez, 18, and Christopher Patrick Reed, 18, both of Sunset, already were in Davis County Jail on aggravated assault charges when, according to South Ogden police, the probe established their involvement in the July shooting.

Two men approached a house on the 3600 block of Porter Avenue about 11 p.m., said South Ogden police Officer Marci Edwards. One aimed a shotgun through a front bedroom window. The 29-year-old man and his wife were playing with their 5- and 6-year-old sons inside.

The gunman fired three times, hitting the 6-year-old in the back of the head and the 5-year-old in the foot and ankle. The father was shot in the face, shoulder and back.

"The children are both doing well," Edwards said Monday. "They're not going to have any lasting problems. The adult male does have some injuries that will be lifelong as a result of this shooting."

Edwards said the investigation linked Reed and Lopez, who police said are gang members, to the shooting. Police said the man who was shot is a known gang member. The man's family, though, said he is an electrician and not an active member of a gang.
