The Riverton Silverwolves knew that the key to a win over Kearns at Cougar Stadium last Friday night would depend on their ability to shut down Kearns quarterback J.R. Finai.
They did just that and more, carrying a shutout for three and a half quarters before Kearns scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.
The Silverwolves defense came up huge time and again against a normally high-scoring Kearns offense. They made Finai a non-threat the majority of the game, which was to key to Riverton coach Mike Miller's game plan.
On offense, Riverton used their stable of running backs, and its Wing-T formation to repeatedly find breakdowns in the Cougar defense. Leading the charge was Dillon Draper who had 171 rushing

"Our expectations for this season are pretty high, we know we can be a team that is there in the end if we execute our running game like we did against Kearns," Draper said.
Cyprus
For the Cyprus Pirates, 2009 has been a roller-coaster season so far. A week after a thrilling 41-40 overtime win over Kearns, they dropped a game to Juan Diego 55-17.
This past Friday, the roller coaster went back up, as the Pirates defeated Taylorsville 29-10.
Cyprus moved up to 5A from 4A this year, and also has a brand new coaching staff, which is why the Pirates have been so up and down this year. New head coach Brian Jacketta has installed the spread offense at Cyprus, and while the results have been mixed, the team feels like they are heading in the right direction.
"We have some athletes that are able to make plays in space, and we've been trying to create that space with our formations and with our scheme so far this year," Jacketta said.
If the Pirates can run the spread on a consistent basis, expect that roller coaster to continue to move up, but if they cannot execute their play calls to perfection, their season will continue to be an up and down experience.
Player of the Week » Adam Boelter, West Jordan
Boelter continues to pad his resume for player of the year honors. This past Friday, the quarterback for the Jaguars had a hand in all eight touchdowns scored in West Jordan's 55-6 victory over Cyprus Hills. Boelter was 25-for-33 passing for 250 yards and six touchdowns and had 90 rushing yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Boelter now has 22 combined rushing and passing touchdowns on the season.

The amount of points allowed by Riverton on the road at a hostile Cougar Stadium last Friday night. The Silverwolves defense kept Kearns quarterback J.R. Finai in check all game, a feat that many teams have failed to do this year.
