Woodruff woman charged in fatal Rich County crash
A Woodruff woman has been charged with felony automobile homicide for allegedly driving drunk, crashing her car and killing her passenger.
Chelsey Brown, 18, was charged last month with the third degree felony Sept. 4 in Rich County 1st District Court and is scheduled to make an initial appearance in court in October.
According to the Utah Highway Patrol, Brown was driving fast in a 2007 Pontiac GT on July 25 when she lost control of her car on State Road 16 near Randolph, slid sideways and hit a utility pole. The crash occurred about 1:20 a.m.
Brown's passenger, 18-year-old Dacoda Sorochuk, of Randolph, was injured when the passenger's side of the car collided with the pole. He was transported to Evanston Regional Hospital in Wyoming where he was pronounced dead.
Brown, who suffered minor injuries, was taken to the same hospital and released later that day.
In charging documents, the Rich County Attorney's Office accuses Brown of having a blood alcohol content above the legal limit of .08 when the crash occurred.
