U. S. Attorney General Eric Holder announced Utah has been awarded $2.6 million to increase public safety in the state.

Holder announced the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant on Aug. 21.

The money is expected to be used to improve statewide technology, support rural police agencies and narcotics interdiction, fund a prescription-drug awareness program and help fund college campus police departments, among other programs.
