Grade: B

Those expecting a raucous Judd Apatow-inspired ("Superbad," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin") comedy will be surprised (perhaps pleasantly) to discover that "Adventureland" is a sweet coming-of-age film wrapped in comedic sheep's clothing. Based on director Greg Mattola's experience as an amusement park carny, the story follows a nerdish college grad during the summer of 1987, as he falls in love at the fictional Adventureland. Though there are some laughs -- perhaps not enough -- its low-key charm might sneak up and surprise you.
