A historic building in the Dixie National Forest is being restored and will be available for the public to rent.

The Pine Valley Campground Guard Station project will be funded with federal stimulus funds.

The rustic cabin was built in 1935. The project will include refurbishing the building with updated plumbing and electricity, including solar panels to generate power. When finished, the building will sleep up to six people.

The guard station was used by the Forest Service through the mid-1900s, but since has only been used intermittently.

The Pine Valley District ranger says the project will create jobs and provide much-needed work on a historic part of the forest.
