Summit County sheriff's deputies are investigating a possible search and rescue case.

At about 10:40 a.m., dispatchers got a call from an emergency GPS beacon in the King's Peak area, said Sgt. Joshua Wall. The devices alert police to trouble in a particular spot and provide the name of the device's owner, but don't report any specifics about what might be wrong.

Many are false alarms created when the beacon is accidently activated, Wall said.

Police called the owner of the beacon, who said he had lent the device to some friends to go hiking.

Search and rescue crews are now entering the King's Peak area to try and find the group and figure out whether they are in trouble.

"We're doing everything we can to get people into the area but we're unsure of exactly what we've got," Wall said.

A separate search and rescue in the Upper Setting area outside of Kamas ended well Saturday when a man and woman were found safe. The pair were camping with his family Friday when they left for a walk about 8 p.m., Wall said.

When they didn't return by 2 a.m., the family called police. Officers watched the roads overnight and called out search and rescue in the morning. Crews found the pair, who are both in their early 20s, about 7 a.m. on a road.
