An armed 52-year-old Hyrum man was arrested early Tuesday after allegedly holding a woman and two children hostage during a standoff with a SWAT team in Cache County.

The man, who was armed with a handgun, apparently barricaded himself, the woman and two children in a Hyrum home just after midnight during a domestic dispute, Cache County sheriff's Lt. Chad Jensen reported.

The sheriff's office SWAT team and members of the Logan Police Department and the Utah Highway Patrol responded and negotiated with the man.

Jensen reported that the woman and her two children were released from the home shortly after authorities arrived. The man remained barricaded in the home for another two hours before surrendering.

The man was booked into the Cache County jail on suspicion of aggravated kidnapping and domestic violence.
