High winds knocked down electrical lines Wednesday evening, cutting power in central and northern Utah.

About 7,600 homes and businesses were without electricity for the evening, said Rocky Mountain Power spokeswoman Margaret Oler. She said the outages ran virtually from the north edge of Utah and as far south as Gunnison and Mount Pleasant.

As of 11 p.m., most power to customers had been restored. Only about 1,500 businesses and homes remained without power in northern Utah.
