A Salt Lake County man who already is serving up to life in prison for two rapes was ordered Tuesday to stand trial in another sexual assault case.

After hearing testimony from the alleged victim, 3rd District Judge Paul Maughan ruled there was probable cause that a crime had occurred and that Azlen Marchet was involved. Marchet, 31, is charged with two first-degree felony counts of aggravated sexual assault.

The alleged victim said she met Marchet at a Salt Lake City nightclub in June 2003 and gave him her phone number, but never returned his calls. When she saw him again about a week later at the same club, he appeared angry and said they needed to talk, the woman testified.

When she left the club, Marchet was waiting and asked her to walk to his car, the woman said. He then allegedly pulled her into an alley and raped her.

Marchet was convicted in two previous trials of rapes that occurred in 2002 and 2004, and acquitted of a 2005 rape. He is serving two consecutive terms of five years to life in prison.

The three women in the other cases claim they met Marchet at Salt Lake City nightclubs and went to watch a video at his home, where he removed their clothing and raped them despite their protestations. Marchet has proclaimed his innocence in all the assaults.
