INTERNATIONAL ACTION
Six MLS All-Stars will play for the United States today when it meets rival Mexico in the final of the Gold Cup in New Jersey. RSL's Kyle Beckerman is among them, and has enjoyed a strong tournament, even scoring an equalizer in the tournament quarterfinal.
HOLD THE TAKEOVER
Officials with Everton responded last week to media reports linking them with a takeover bid by group in the United Arab Emirates. Chairman Bill Kenwright told shareholders that while the club is still seeking a "major financial investment," nothing is imminent.
SOLID CHOICE
Coach Dominic Kinnear gave league commissioner Don Garber credit for making "two wise picks" when he chose RSL's Javier Morales and Kyle Beckerman for the MLS All-Stars. "Picking some players from Salt Lake obviously extends an olive branch to local players," he said, "and I think they're smart picks."
