Three men allegedly jumped into a stranger's car while it was stopped at a red light on June 1, held the man captive for several hours, wrapped him with a blanket and beat him with a belt buckle.
In charges filed Tuesday, police wrote that the man was waiting at a red light June 1 on North Temple when the three men got into the car and said, "Let us borrow your car."
The driver was not allowed to leave for four or five hours, police wrote. The men drove the victim to the Chateau Motel, 1999 W. North Temple, where they covered him with a blanket, police wrote. He was punched, kicked and beaten with a belt buckle, police wrote.
The men took his wallet, told him not to call police, threw his keys at him and released him.
A 25-year-old man from Salt Lake City, who was booked into jail on July 4, was charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery, both first-degree felonies.
