The body of a Latino man was found Friday in a remote area of Washington County and police are investigating the suspicious death as a homicide.

Sheriff's detectives found the man's body Friday afternoon near Gooseberry Mesa, about seven miles south of Rockville, the sheriff's office reported. A motorist in the area reported the man's body to police, Chief Deputy Rob Tersigni said.

The body was in an advanced stage of decomposition and may have been in the sun and heat for at least a couple of days, Tersigni said.

There were no visible wounds found on the body to determine how the man died, Tersigni said. The man's body will be sent to the Utah Medical Examiner's Office in Salt Lake City.

An identification card or driver license was found with the body but investigators are withholding the man's name until his family has been contacted, Tersigni said.

Preliminary autopsy results may be released Monday, Tersigni said.
