A Bountiful toddler, who suffered second- and third-degree burns last week when a power line fell on a swing set he was playing on, has undergone two surgeries to remove damaged tissue. He remains in critical condition.
That is the update Jake Marland's parents, Jenny and Scott, released in a statement Wednesday evening.
They also said the burns damaged 29 percent of Jake's body. Though the injuries are still life-threatening, the 2-year-old appears to be recovering, his parents said.
Jake was on a wooden swing set at his aunt's Bountiful home at about 5:15 p.m. June 30 when a tree branch broke, striking a power line. The power line snapped and fell on the swing set, shocking the boy.
Jake suffered a large entry burn on his shoulder and exit burns on his feet, with arc burns down his sides, police said.
Jake is expected to remain in the University Hospital burn unit for several weeks and maybe two months, his parents said. He will then undergo therapy for about a year.
The Marland family has set up an account at America First Credit Union to help pay Jake's medical expenses.
