A pilot died Tuesday in a plane crash in remote area of Washington County.
The Piper Meridian left Las Vegas on Tuesday morning and was reported three hours overdue from Cedar City about 2 p.m., said Washington County sheriff's Chief Deputy Rob Tersigni.
Civil Air Patrol searchers found the wreck about 2:30 p.m. near Utah Hill east of the Beaver Dam Wash, Tersigni said. The pilot, a Las Vegas resident, was found dead at the scene. The plane was badly burned, Tersigni said.
Staff from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are expected to arrive Wednesday to investigate the crash.
Authorities are not releasing the pilot's name pending family notifications.
