A woman suffered significant burns after she crashed her car into decorative rocks on a private drive.

"She was smoldering when we dragged her out," said Salt Lake County Sheriff's Lt. Don Hutson.

The crash occurred about 3:30 a.m. at 1042 W. 13200 South in Riverton. Hutson said there is evidence the 59-year-old woman was under the influence of medication and continued driving east on 13200 South after it becomes a private drive.

The drive ends in front of three homes, and the woman crashed her car into large, decorative rocks in front of a house. When a deputy arrived, Hutson said, the car was out of gear, but still running and the woman had her foot on the gas "full throttle."

That caused the transmission to burn and ignited a fire, Hutson said. The woman suffered burns to her arms and legs. Her condition was not immediately available Wednesday morning.
