A West Jordan man was ordered Wednesday to stand trial for allegedly tying a mentally disabled 14-year-old girl to a bed and sexually assaulting her.

Scott K. Olsen, 56, is charged with first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping, four counts of second-degree felony forcible sexual abuse and lewdness, a class B misdemeanor.

Prosecutors said the crimes all occurred on one day during the last school year, when the girl was in ninth grade.

Olsen, who lived in the same apartment building as the girl, is accused of befriending her and taking into his bedroom, where he allegedly bound the girl to a bed with straps and sexually assaulted her, according to testimony at Wednesday's preliminary hearing.

West Jordan police began investigating the case when the girl told a teacher that she had an adult boyfriend. The teacher then notified administrators who spoke to the girl and then contacted police.

A judge bound the case over for trial after hearing testimony from the girl, her mother, the school teacher and a police detective.

Olsen, who is being held at the Salt Lake County jail in lieu of $200,000, is to appear for a scheduling hearing on June 25 before Judge Mark Kouris.
