Search and rescue officers are looking for a Moab man missing after his canoe capsized on the Colorado River on Thursday morning.

Jody Page, 35, and a friend were trying to float through a white water rapid about 10:45 a.m., said Grand County Sheriff Jim Nyland. But when they hit the rapid, their fiberglass canoe filled with water and went under.

Page "was last seen in the middle of the rapid hollering for help," Nyland said. Neither man was wearing a life jacket or other flotation device. The 36-year-old friend, also a Moab resident, was able to escape and swim to the north side of the river, Nyland said. The canoe was found downstream.

Page is presumed drowned, Nyland said. Page grew up in Moab with his foster family, Nyland said. His biological family is believed to be in Colorado.
