A judge on Tuesday found the fraud suspect dubbed "The Hipster Grifter" is indigent and appointed a public defender to represent her.
The defendant, 22-year-old Kari M. Ferrell, made her first appearance in Salt Lake City's 3rd District Court since being extradited from New York. Ferrell appeared via camera from the Salt Lake County jail.
Ferrell is charged with two counts of forgery, each of which carry up to five years in prison. Her next court appearance is June 11, at which time lawyers and the judge will discuss the status of her case. No trial date has been set.
