Crews move fast to restore power in Tooele County

A weekend lightning strike darkened thousands of homes in Tooele County as thunderstorms rolled across the Beehive State bringing rain and occasional flash floods.

But the blackout didn't last long. Within two hours of Sunday's 7 p.m. outage, Rocky Mountain Power had restored electricity to 9,600 homes in a grid that serves Tooele, Stockton, Grantsville, Rush Valley and Skull Valley.

The National Weather Service warns that concentrated showers could occur across the state, creating a flash flood risk for hikers meandering slot canyons in central Utah or in places with steep terrain or slick rock. .

Temperatures likely will rise slightly today along the Wasatch Front with highs reaching 76. The National Weather Service predicts a 20 percent chance of rain after noon.
