Murray Mayor Dan Snarr might be kissing his famous mustache goodbye.

Snarr is allowing the people decide if the mustache will stay or go by letting them vote at the Murray Costco, 5201 S. Intermountain Dr., as part of a fundraiser for Children's Miracle Network.

Voters make a donation at the checkout counter, and then put their ballot in jugs marked “shave” or “save.”

Snarr has participated in several fundraising events in the past, but was inspired by his wife April this year, who says the mustache hits people in the eyes and makes it hard to kiss her husband.

Snarr loves the handlebars, which are 1 inch shy of his 12-inch goal, and hopes the people rule in his favor.

Snarr considered purchasing 500 coupons for Costco hot dogs to pass out as bribes to vote “save,” but realized the votes for “shave” are so far ahead, it would not make much difference.

Either way, Snarr is happy to help a worthy cause. He plans to keep at least a small mustache to cover the scars from a reconstructive nose surgery he had several years ago.

Residents can cast their votes through May 16.
