A Weber County man was killed Friday night when he ran a red light and hit an SUV, police said.

Scott Slater, 51, of Marriott-Slaterville, was driving a blue Chevy Cobalt east on Pioneer Road when he ran a red light at 2000 West, said sheriff's Lt. Matthew Bell.

About 9 p.m., the car hit a southbound Lincoln Navigator with four women, ages 18 to 22, inside. The Navigator rolled, throwing one of the women from the vehicle. The car was driving about 55 mph, within the speed limit, and two of the four women were wearing seatbelts. All were treated at area hospitals and expected to be released Saturday.

Slater was pinned inside the car and declared dead at the scene, Bell said. It isn't clear whether he was wearing a seatbelt. The car was driving at about 50 mph, over the speed limit for the road. Neither alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, Bell said.

Slater is a cousin of Weber County Sheriff Brad Slater.

"He is a good man, and his family is suffering ," Slater said Saturday. "I would just hope the people in the other vehicle are recovering."
