A Salt Lake City woman was hospitalized in serious condition, and her dog was killed over the weekend when an alleged drunk-driver struck them in a crosswalk and fled.
The woman was walking her dog across 2100 South in a crosswalk at 1180 East at about 8 p.m. on Friday, police said. One car stopped to let the pair cross, but the driver of a white Subaru kept going, striking the two.
The Subaru left the scene, but an officer later found the vehicle and driver at the address where the car was registered. Police arrested the 36-year-old driver for a DUI hit-and-run.
The dog died, and the woman was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. She has since been upgraded and continues to recover in the hospital, said Salt Lake City Det. Dennis McGowan.
