Federal agents are investigating a possible hate crime in Sugar House, where anti-Semitic and racist literature was distributed last week to several residents' homes.

The fliers were bundled with copies of The Daily Utah Chronicle and left Wednesday at homes on two blocks near 1700 East Blaine Avenue and 1200 East Princeton Avenue, said FBI spokesman Juan Becerra.

Some of the fliers included anti-Semitic messages; others decried interracial marriage, Becerra said.

A group called the National Socialist Movement has claimed to have created and distributed the fliers, but agents have not confirmed that, Becerra said.

Agents are trying to determine whether the fliers were intended to target and threaten particular households -- a necessary element for a hate crime, Becerra said. He would not discuss whether any of the recipients are Jewish or are interracial couples.
