Gun owners would be able to legally carry their firearms in more places without a permit if Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. signs two bills.

HB357 would allow adults who may legally own a gun to keep a concealed, loaded firearm in their home, car or on their private property, providing they are 18 or older. Loaded rifles and shotguns are not allowed in vehicles because they can fire when jostled.

SB78 would allow employees or customers to store weapons in their cars while parked at a private business. Businesses that are required by federal law to ban firearms must provide alternative, off-site parking or gun storage lockers. If that is too much of a financial burden, the business owner could file a statement with the Attorney General's Office and would not have to provide the lot or lockers. However, an employee could sue the business owner.

Lawmakers watered down a bill aimed at protecting the integrity of the Utah concealed weapon permit by not allowing out-of-state instructors.
