In case there was any doubt, lawmakers have passed a bill specifying that it's illegal to drive away without paying for your gasoline or diesel.

SB98, sponsored by state Senator and Ogden Police Chief Jon Greiner, passed the House Wednesday after earlier clearing the Senate.

Not paying after pumping was already illegal and could mean jail time under the state's broader theft statutes, but the bill approved by the Legislature also would allow a judge to suspend a driver license for up to 90 days when someone is convicted of not paying for what they pump.

The legislation now goes to the governor.
