The Salt Lake Valley Health Department has launched a new program to help businesses with water conservation, waste management and energy efficiency.

The program's initial focus is on restaurants and the food service industry. The department says energy costs typically make up 30 percent of a restaurant's budget.

Businesses participating in the program will receive assistance from the county in developing a list of goals that could include reducing electricity consumption and waste.
