Salt Lake City's LDS Hospital is hosting an open house and free health fair Jan. 10, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., to celebrate its recent $4.7 million face-lift. Most activities will take place in the education center, north of the main hospital entrance on 8th Avenue and C Street.

The screenings are for cholesterol, glucose, blood pressure, hearing and body weight. There will also be free flu shots, beginning yoga classes and children's activities, including a hospital scavenger hunt and a Salt Lake City fire truck. Usually closed to the public, an operating room will be open, where children can dress in surgical gowns and see instruments used during surgery.

Tours of renovated parts of the hospital include a new women's center, now with larger labor and delivery suites and maternity rooms with hair dryers, flat-screen TVs and sofa beds. The hyperbaric chamber area, radiology, a post-surgical unit, wound care and the Health and Fitness Institute can also be visited.

The hospital also will host presentations every hour starting at 10 a.m. on topics including joint pain and tips for healthy living.
