A 58-year-old Holladay man was charged Wednesday with attempted murder for allegedly shooting at his wife nine times during an argument last week.

Randolph Taylor Carley shot his wife after she attempted to leave her home at the Sandpiper Apartments, 1370 E. Spring Lane (5000 South) Saturday night, said Lt. Paul Jaroscak of the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office.

Prosecutors have charged Carley in 3rd District Court with attempted murder, a second-degree felony.

According to court documents, a witness heard eight gunshots and saw Carley standing by a car pointing a gun at his wife. The 55-year-old woman told the witness, "He shot me," court documents state. She was shot in the knee and a bullet also grazed her side. The witness took the gun from Carley and detained him until police arrived. The woman's injuries were not life threatening.
