GENOLA - Former Town Clerk Traci Wright's restitution payments are helping the city pay off the debt it incurred in creating a cemetery.

The Town Council unanimously voted to apply $50,000 of Wright's $104,000 initial restitution payment toward the cemetery bond. The council had put $50,000 in restitution funds toward the cemetery debt during a previous meeting. The remaining $4,000 is going into the town's general fund.

Wright, 42, was initially charged with 13 counts each of misusing public funds, a second-degree felony, 13 counts of forgery, a third-degree felony, and one count of theft, a second-degree felony. She reportedly stole $228,000 from the town over a six-year period.

In a plea deal, Wright pleaded guilty to three counts each of misusing public funds and forgery; the other charges were dropped. She also agreed to pay restitution. She was also sentenced to 20 days in the Utah County jail, 70 days on electronic monitoring and three years of probation.
