Authorities have identified a pilot who was killed in an airplane crash Saturday in Iron County, and his wife, who was seriously injured. William Phillips and his wife, Janice, were flying from the Parowan airport to Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon when their single-engine plane crashed about 1 mile north of the runway, Iron County sheriff's deputies said Sunday. William Phillips died at the scene; Janice Phillips was expected to survive critical injuries, deputies reported Sunday evening. She was being treated at Intermountain Medical Center.

Crash kills man, injures wife

A 31-year-old Salt Lake City man died Saturday when the car he was riding in overturned on Interstate 215 near 5500 South. Hutch L. Henrie died at about 9:30 p.m. when he was ejected through the sun roof of a 2002 Volvo and suffered severe head injuries. Kara Henrie, his 36-year-old pregnant wife who was driving, received minor cuts and bruises, the Utah Highway Patrol stated in a crash report. An ultrasound conducted at a local hospital concluded the fetus was unharmed, UHP reported. The Volvo had been traveling north when it veered up a hill on the right side of the highway, slid sideways and rolled several times before crashing. Hutch Henrie was not wearing a seat belt. His wife was wearing a seat belt, UHP reported.

Motorcyclist dies in Zion Park accident

A 52-year-old motorcyclist died in Zion National Park Saturday when he lost control of his bike and crashed. Eugene Carlston of St. George was riding south on Kolob Terrace Road at about 5:30 p.m. when he drove off the pavement, laid the motorcycle on its side and slid, the Utah Highway Patrol stated in a crash report. The motorcycle hit a fallen tree and flipped. Carlston, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered severe head trauma.

Suspect in car chase, assault nabbed

Box Elder County Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Sunday morning who allegedly assaulted an Idaho police officer, led authorities on a car chase and slammed his vehicle into two Utah police cars before being captured. Idaho State Police chased the man's car east on Interstate 84 into Tremonton at about 7 a.m. Sunday, the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office reported. Deputies put spikes down across the road twicebut both times the man went around them. The man slammed his car into a Tremonton police patrol car and backed into a sheriff's deputy's car. He was arrested and booked on suspicion of aggravated assault on a peace officer, felony evading and several outstanding warrants, police reported. He is expected to be extradited to Idaho.
