Posted: 8:22 AM- A driver died Thursday when his car ran off the road near Spanish Fork.

Fernando Salgado, 34, died at the scene, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

About 9:30 p.m., Salgado was driving his 1995 Mercury Cougar west on State Road 147 near the intersection of 5600 West and 7300 South. The road curves to the south and UHP Sgt. Jeff Nigbur said Salgado failed to negotiate the twist.

The car ran off the road, bounced, hit the top of a barbed wire fence and rolled several times before resting on its roof. Salgado's passenger freed himself and went to a house to call for help, Nigbur said.

Nigbur said alcohol and excessive speed may have been factors in the crash.
