Need a lawyer?

The newly formed Utah Democratic Lawyers Council has 150 of them - not to argue court cases, but to make political pitches for fellow Democratic attorneys running for office.

The political-action group announced its creation Tuesday at the Alta Club in Salt Lake City. Among its founding members: Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker and Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon.

"We're lawyers and we've been trained to lead, to think analytically and to persuade others," President Jeffrey Eisenberg wrote in a Web-posted letter to members. "And now we have to stand up and do it."
